6 Ways to Elevate Your Summer This Year

It’s officially summer! Personally, it feels like I’ve been waiting so long for this very day. Many of us have experienced what felt like a long cool spring season up until the past few weeks when the weather finally began to feel warm.

Anyway, back to the present moment. Summer is the season that always feels like it’s gone in the blink of an eye and I know I’m not just speaking for myself here. If we don’t take the time to enjoy every minute we possibly can, we may feel like the season was just a waste. If you’re anything like me and want to make sure you take the time to enjoy the summer season, here are six things you can incorporate into your summer days.

No. 1 Early Sunrise

It’s no secret that I’m an early morning person. If I had the power to make everyone else the same I probably would but I won’t do that LOL! We are all designed differently and we need to honor what works for us. However, if you are interested in waking up earlier, summer may be a great time for you to begin a new habit. The early sunrise during the summer season makes it so much easier to wake up (especially if you have a good night’s rest and a proper wind-down routine).

Fun fact: Did you know that sunlight halts melatonin production and serotonin which is made in the pineal gland causes the brain to move into a level of awareness? Challenge yourself to enjoy the beauty of an early morning this summer and see how you feel.

No. 2 Outdoor Workouts

Have you ever done a workout outside, whether it was a quick walk, a run, or even yoga, that you realized that you felt more refreshed than working out indoors? You’re not alone. Having access to fresh air is so much better for us than breathing in the same air as everyone else indoors at a gym. Summer is such a great time to take advantage of taking your workouts outdoors. Plus, the sweet scents and sounds of nature are really grounding. This summer, treat yourself to an outdoor workout as much as you can.

If you can’t get outside or prefer to workout in your home, you can always open a window or two to let fresh air in during your workout and enjoy the sweet sounds of nature while you’re at it.

No. 3 Experiment with Summer Produce

I’m creating a quick summer produce guide for June to help you during your next grocery shopping trip. Before you add to cart though, think of fun recipes you want to create. The goal is to make sure you’re buying what you’re actually going to eat. This could be a hydrating summer juice with your favorite melons, an antioxidant-rich smoothie with your favorite berries, or even a salad mixed with in-season fruit to go with your dinner. Whatever you decide, find ways to nourish your body with fresh summer produce and make it a fun and enjoyable experience for yourself.

No. 4 Try a New (to you) Fashion Trend (or Two)

Summer is a great time for playful prints, pops of colors, breezy fabrics, textures and more. If you feel like you need a little wardrobe refresh but don’t know where to begin, start with one trend that you really, really like and see how it works out for you this season. For instance, I’m truly not a polka dot kind of girl, but this season, I seem to come across tops, swimwear, dresses and even shoes with a variation of the print that I actually do like and want to try.

It’s always nice to step out of your comfort zone and embrace a different side of you and there’s just something about the summer season that feels so accepting to do just that.

No. 5 Wait for No One!

It’s summer! Let yourself free. Give yourself permission to do the things that you’ve always wanted to do during the summer season specifically. We all have that “This Summer I will…” list and it’s time we actually check some things off that list! Last summer, I went on my first solo trip and though at the time I went due burnout, and a case of depression, taking a solo vacation has always been something I’ve always wanted to do and I look forward to doing it annually to recharge and come back to myself. If you’re not ready to go on a solo trip just yet, take yourself to the bar, the beach, or even to the movies. Point is, you don’t always have to wait for someone to tag along in order to enjoy yourself. Don’t let these bountiful summer days pass you by!

No. 6 Scroll Less, Achieve More!

Challenge yourself to scroll less and live more this summer. Instagram and Tiktok will always be there but as I’ve mentioned before, summer always feels like it’s over in the blink of an eye. Start by creating a mindful social media schedule for yourself. Pick the days and the amount of time you want to be on the apps you love. Let’s say one hour (or an hour and a half so you have time to post and engage) during the first half of the day and one hour during the second half and spend the rest of the time creating the memories, and achieving goals that you’ve always wanted to.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post! How are you spending your summer 2022?
