My obsession with bomber jackets runs deep (tbh, my obsession with outerwear in general runs deep but that’s another post for another day). If I didn’t have a little self control, I’d probably buy just about every single bomber jacket style that makes me say, “this is dope”. Not only are bomber jackets functional, they’re also a stylish and versatile piece that can be dressed up or down — which is why I love them so much.

For lunch with one of my girlfriends over the holiday break, I took my cropped Acne Studios Boucle Bomber Jacket out for a spin. This jacket was a find during my trip to Woodbury back in October and I can’t tell you just how much I love this piece. For our lunch date, I styled my bomber with a pair of vintage Levi’s high-waisted jeans, (since this jacket is cropped a high-waist pair of jeans just offers a polished look overall), and a simple white long-sleeve fitted top underneath. The combination is super casual yet put-together but to dress it up a bit and add visual interest to my look, I wore my beloved beige Margiela Tabis (similar style here and here) which I don’t wear enough, my Fendi fendigraphy bag (definitely getting my cost-per-wear out of this baby!), and my Loewe sunnies (here’s a budget-friendly dupe under $20).
If you’re looking to add bomber jackets to your wardrobe, I suggest starting off with a classic varsity piece like this one. But if you want to add some fun to your wardrobe, opt for different colors and patterns (see options below). Since bombers are trending right now, the variety of styles and colors are endless. I also suggest trying out different textures (this teddy bomber is yummy!), like a velvet, satin bomber jacket or a boucle one like mine.
Another tip is to play with proportions. If you’re petite, look for a cropped bomber jacket that hits right at your waist and pair it up with a high waist jean of choice.
I truly feel a bomber jacket can easily elevate any outfit. What’s more: It’s a great transitional piece that can be worn from season to season.
